Trinovum

Trinovum – Reliable Triphasic Oral Contraceptive

One of many medicines that are often referred to simply as ‘the pill’, Trinovum provides women with contraceptive protection that is more than 99% effective. This tablet, if taken daily, ‘fools’ the body into making it very difficult for you to conceive.

Trinovum is a triphasic pill, meaning that throughout the menstrual cycle the dose of each tablet varies. This means that, without compromising effectiveness, this pill reduces the likelihood of side effects or adverse reactions to its active ingredients.

For women who have experienced side effects when using older versions of the combined contraceptive pill, Trinovum could be the ideal way to enjoy full protection.

Trinovum Benefits

Trinovum, if taken properly every day, makes it nearly impossible for a woman to conceive. According to comprehensive studies on the effectiveness of this pill, less than one in a hundred women will fall pregnant, making it a more dependable solution that condoms alone. What’s more, the hormones contained in Trinovum help to ensure that periods are regular, less painful and less heavy, and the medicine is often prescribed for this purpose.

Being a triphasic pill, the female body is generally exposed to less synthetic hormone with Trinovum than with other biphasic or monophasic pills. This means that side effects are very unlikely to occur and this is a key benefit of choosing this form of contraception.

Does Trinovum Work And Stop Conception?

Between puberty and menopause, the female body experiences a menstrual cycle every month. This cycle lasts 28 days and exists to prepare the body for the possibility of becoming pregnant. Halfway through the cycle, an egg is released from the ovaries. If sperm manages to reach this egg, it may become fertilised, following which it will attempt to bed itself into the womb to begin its development. If the egg is not fertilised, it is removed from the body at the beginning of the next cycle – this is your period.

The menstrual cycle is controlled by two hormones naturally found in the female body, called oestrogen and progesterone. The amount of each of these hormones in the body goes up and down at different points in the 28 day process.

Trinovum is a combined contraceptive pill, meaning that it contains two synthetic hormones – ethinylestradiol and norethisterone, which are synthetic oestrogen and progesterone respectively. By taking Trinovum, the hormone levels in your body are artificially adjusted to stop ovulation from occurring, to thicken the cervical mucus and prevent sperm from passing through, and also to ensure that the womb lining is too thin to support an egg. Together, these effects make it very unlikely that you will become pregnant.

Who Can Take Trinovum?

Trinovum can be offered to women over the age of 18 who need a dependable oral contraceptive, as well as sometimes to women who suffer from heavy, painful or irregular periods.

Who Should Not Take Trinovum?

Trinovum should not be used by any woman who is pregnant or believes she may be pregnant, or by anybody who is breast-feeding. This pill may also not be the right choice for women with a history of gynaecological cancers, blood clots, circulation problems or heart conditions, although our doctors are happy to help you find a pill that works for you.

How To Take Trinovum

Trinovum is a triphasic contraceptive pill, which means that each tablet contains one of three different formulations of ethinylestradiol and norethisterone. The tablet packaging conveniently labels each tablet to ensure that you take them in the correct order and at the correct point in your cycle.

Ideally, you should take your first pill on the first day of your period. If you do this, you will be protected against pregnancy immediately. Then, carry on taking the tablets in the correct order at approximately the same time each day, with or without food. You will repeat this until you have finished your strip of 21 tablets – then, you will have a tablet-free break for 7 days. During this time, you will still be protected against pregnancy but may notice light bleeding, known as a ‘withdrawal bleed’. After 7 days, resume taking the pill as before.

Trinovum Side Effects

Since Trinovum is a triphasic medicine and does not overload your body with more synthetic hormone than is necessary, side effects are very uncommon with this medicine and tend to be very mild if experienced at all. Occasionally, women have reported weight gain, nausea or headaches, although these side effects tended to disappear as women continued to take the pill. However, if you are concerned about the side effects of Trinovum, contact your doctor.
