A third-generation combined contraceptive pill designed to be safer for long-term use than older alternatives, Femodene ED is an almost 100% effective way for women to protect themselves from unplanned pregnancy. The tablet is taken daily, making it a much easier to manage solution than 21-day contraceptives.
Combined contraceptive pills are part of a group of medicines collectively known as ‘the pill’. These tablets contain synthesized versions of two hormones found naturally in the body, which regulate the female menstrual cycle and the process of pregnancy. By artificially increasing the levels of these hormones, combined contraceptive pills ‘trick’ the body into reducing the odds of becoming pregnant.
Femodene ED allows women to enjoy a healthy sex life without the fear of unplanned pregnancy.
Femodene ED is a particularly popular contraceptive as, if the tablet is taken on the first day of your period, you can be protected against pregnancy immediately. In addition, since this is a 28-day pill, you can take the medicine every day and not have to worry about managing a 7-day break.
Studies show that this pill works in over 99% of cases, meaning that in a sample of a hundred women, less than one of them will fall pregnant. By combining this contraceptive pill with a condom, you can be confident that the chance of becoming pregnant is very slim.
Additionally, women who have taken Femodene ED find that their periods are lighter and less painful and the medicine is sometimes prescribed for this purpose as well as to make periods more regular.
Every 28 days, the female menstrual cycle takes place. This is the repeated cycle that prepares the female body for the possibility of falling pregnant. Halfway through the process, an egg is released from one of the ovaries and starts travelling down the fallopian tubes towards the womb. If sperm manages to reach the egg, it can become fertilised. When a fertilised egg reaches the womb, it attempts to bed itself into the womb lining, which is at its thickest at this stage of the cycle. If conception does not occur, the womb lining and unfertilised egg are removed from the body – this is a period, which begins the next cycle.
Every event in this process occurs as a result of increases in the levels of two hormones in the body, oestrogen and progesterone.
Femodene ED tablets contain synthetic versions of each of these hormones – ethinylestradiol and gestodene. This artificial increase in hormone levels has a threefold effect – no egg is released from the ovaries, mucus thickens around the cervix to stop sperm from entering and the lining of the womb thins to make it more difficult for an egg to sit. If one of these results occurs, falling pregnant is unlikely – together, the three effects make it almost impossible to conceive.
Femodene ED can be provided to women over the age of 18 who require a reliable form of contraception. The medicine is also sometimes offered to women who suffer from painful, irregular or particularly heavy periods.
Femodene ED should not be used by any woman who is pregnant or thinks that they may be pregnant. This medicine is also not usually offered to women who are breast-feeding unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks. In some cases, the tablet cannot be taken by anybody with a history of blood clots, gynaecologic cancers or circulation problems.
Femodene ED is offered in a 0.075mg/0.03mg dosage, which means that each pill contains 0.075mg of ethinylestradiol and 0.03mg of gestodene. In addition to the 21 active pills, the packet contains 7 larger placebos that have no effect on your body. Taking these helps you to stay in the routine of taking your pill.
You should ideally begin taking this tablet on the first day of your period – if you do, you will be protected against pregnancy immediately. Alternatively, if you start taking Femodene ED later in your cycle, you should also use a form of barrier contraception such as a condom for seven days, as you will not be protected in this time.
Continue to take the pills every day at approximately the same time, following the order that is illustrated on the packaging of the pills. You should take the pills in this order to ensure that you are taking the active pills for 21 days and the placebo pills for 7 days. During this 7 day period, you may experience light bleeding but you will still be protected.
If you miss a dose of Femodene ED, take it as soon as you remember and carry on. You will still be protected against unplanned pregnancy. However, if you miss your pill for 3 or more days, you should resume taking the pill daily but also seek barrier contraception such as a condom for the next 7 days.
Since Femodene ED contains a third generation synthetic version of progesterone, women generally experience less significant side effects than with older medicines. However, when side effects do rarely occur they may include vomiting, abdominal cramps, breast tenderness, nausea, weight gain or headaches. If you are concerned about any side effects that you encounter whilst taking Femodene ED, contact your doctor.
