Dianette

Dianette – 99% Protection Against Unplanned Pregnancy

Dianette is one of a group of medicines which are often collectively referred to as The Pill. These oral female contraceptives minimise the risk of pregnancy, allowing women to enjoy a healthy sex life without the fear of accidental conception.

Dianette features two synthetic hormones that mimic and influence the natural menstrual cycle of a woman. In addition, one of the synthetic hormones in this medicine is an anti-androgen which is sometimes used to treat acne and excessive hair in women (hirsutism). This convenient, easy to manage medicine provides incredible levels of protection, making Dianette a popular choice for women worldwide.

Dianette Benefits

Greatly reducing the likelihood of becoming pregnant during sexual intercourse, Dianette is a combined oral contraceptive pill featuring two synthetic hormones. In clinical studies, this medicine works in over 99% of cases, meaning that less than one in a hundred women taking the pill will fall pregnant.

By combining the contraceptive power of the pill with barrier protection such as a condom, women can be almost completely confident that they are engaging in safe sex.

Dianette is also proven to reduce the amount of sebum on the female skin, helping to prevent acne and reduce excessive hair growth.

Does Dianette Work To Stop Conception?

The menstrual cycle occurs across a 28 day cycle every month and helps the female body to prepare for becoming pregnant and carrying a baby to term. Approximately halfway through the menstrual cycle, one of the female’s two ovaries releases an egg, which can be fertilised if a sperm cell reaches the fallopian tube. If this happens, the women can become pregnant. If this does not happen, the menstrual cycle ends with a period, which removes the egg along with the womb lining.

Two hormones within the female body, oestrogen and progesterone, control the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. When a female becomes pregnant, her oestrogen and progesterone levels prevent more eggs from being released.

Dianette pills contain cyproterone acetate and ethinylestradiol, which are synthetic versions of progesterone and oestrogen respectively. These hormones prevent the body from realising an egg, cause the fluid in the neck of the womb to thicken so that sperm cannot enter, and stop the lining of the womb from thickening enough to sustain the life of an egg.

Does Dianette Work To Help With Acne and Excessive Hair Growth?

Acne and hair growth is caused by androgens, which stimulate extra sebum or grease to form on the surface of the skin. In Dianette, the synthetic hormone cyproterone acetate is also an anti-androgen, which means that it restricts the function of androgens. This means that less sebum is produced and, as a result, women using this tablet will often be able to reduce acne and hair growth.

Who Can Take Dianette?

Dianette is prescribed to most women over the age of 18 and under the age of 50, although it is not usually prescribed to smokers over the age of 35. It can also be prescribed for the treatment of acne or excessive hair growth.

Who Should Not Take Dianette?

Dianette is not recommended for women under the age of 18, over the age of 50, or women over the age of 35 who are heavy smokers. In addition, Dianette should not be used by women who are pregnant or breast feeding, those with liver problems, severe diabetes, abnormal vaginal bleeding, high or low blood pressure, high cholesterol, circulation problems or a history of strokes.

How To Take Dianette

Dianette is manufactured in a 2mg/35mcg dosage, which means that each tablet contains 2mg cyproterone acetate and 35mcg ethinylestradiol. You should take the contraceptive pill for 21 days of your 28 day menstrual cycle and the packaging of these pills features days of the week to help you with this.

Ideally, you should begin taking the pill on the first day of your menstrual cycle, which is the first day of bleeding. Then, continue to take one tablet at approximately the same time every day until you have taken all 21 doses. You should then stop taking the pill for 7 days, during which you may experience light bleeding, although you will still be protected against pregnancy for these seven days. After this week, begin the next course of Dianette.

If you miss a single dose of the medicine (ie. one day), take the missed tablet as soon as possible and then resume your normal dosage from the next day. If you miss any more than one dose, you should take your last missed dose immediately and then resume taking Dianette, although you will not be protected against pregnancy for the next seven days.

Dianette Side Effects

Whilst you may encounter some side effects whilst taking Dianette, these tend to be mild and often disappear as you continue to take the pill. The most common side effects can include weight changes, headaches, enlarged or tender breasts and nausea. If you are concerned about any side effects, or if they become severe, please contact your doctor.
