Cerazette

Cerazette – Oestrogen-Free Mini Pill For Oral Contraception

One of several oral contraceptives that are generally known as ‘the mini pill’, cerazette is a highly effective form of contraception that empowers women to take more control of their sex lives and to reduce the risk of unplanned pregnancy. By taking the mini pill as prescribed, women can benefit from 99% effective contraception.

No oral contraceptive is 100% successful, but there is a tendency that mini pills, containing only one synthetic hormone, are less effective than their combined contraceptive counterparts. However, by comparison to other mini pills, cerazette is surprisingly dependable since it completely stops ovulation from occurring.

For women who are searching for a mini pill that they can rely on, cerazette is a popular choice to avoid unplanned pregnancy.

Cerazette Benefits

Whilst combined contraceptive pills contain synthetic versions of both oestrogen and progesterone, mini pills are oestrogen free. Usually, these pills are moderately less effective than their combined counterparts, since in some women eggs may still released in each cycle.

However, Cerazette is a solution that is free from oestrogen whilst remaining highly effective, allowing women who are sensitive to oestrogen a reliable long-term oral contraceptive.

Studies have shown that women taking this medicine correctly are more than 99% sure to not become pregnant. In practice, this means that less than one a hundred women who take the tablet will conceive a child. In addition, women who suffer from very painful periods have reported that this pain significantly lessened as a result of taking cerazette.

Does Cerazette Work To Stop Conception?

Every 28 days, the female body repeats a menstrual cycle to prepare for the possibility of conceiving, carrying and delivering a child. Halfway through this cycle, an egg is released from one of the ovaries into a fallopian tube, where it begins to move downwards towards the womb. If a sperm manages to reach this egg, it can become fertile and settle into the womb to begin the process of growth. If the egg remains unfertilised at the end of the 28 days, it is removed from the body along with the thick womb lining – this is a period.

This 28 day cycle is regulated by the levels of two hormones within the female body, called oestrogen and progesterone. Essentially, it is these two hormones that cause eggs to be released, the womb lining to thicken and a number of other actions to occur.

Cerazette contains an active ingredient called desogestrel, which is a synthetic form of progesterone. Sometimes, this substance can work to stop the body from releasing an egg, although this is not the case in all women. However, the hormone will thicken the cervix mucus to stop sperm passing through, and thinning the womb lining to make it difficult for an egg to secure itself. Together, these effects greatly reduce the likelihood of becoming pregnant.

Who Can Take Cerazette?

Cerazette can be used by any woman over the age of 18 who is in need of a reliable contraceptive pill, and is particularly well suited to women who have demonstrated a sensitivity to oestrogen in the past. Women who are very obese and smokers over the age of 35 may find that the pill is marginally less effective for them.

Who Should Not Take Cerazette?

Cerazette should not be taken by anybody who is pregnant or thinks they may be pregnant. Whilst it is more likely that this pill can be offered to women with a history of gynaecological cancers, breast cancer, or blood clots, it is still important to inform our doctors of these conditions so that they can determine the potential benefits against the potential risks of the medicine.

How To Take Cerazette

Cerazette is a 28 day mini pill, which means that it should be taken every day with no breaks. Ideally, you should take the first dose of the pill on the first day of your period, but this is not essential. The packaging of the tablets will help you to know when to take each tablet across the 28 day period.

Ideally, you should aim to take the tablet at approximately the same time every day, although with cerazette specifically the pill can be taken up to 12 hours later than your usual designated time and still leave you protected against pregnancy. If you forget to take your tablet for longer than one day, you should resume the course immediately but also seek barrier contraception such as a condom for the next seven days.

Cerazette Side Effects

Since cerazette pills do not contain oestrogen, there is a reduced likelihood of side effects such as headaches, weight gain or acne. However, in some rare cases women who are taking the pill for the first time reported decreased sexual drive, headaches, weight gain, breast pain or nausea whilst their body adjusts to the synthetic hormone. These side effects usually pass quickly in patients who continue taking the mini pill, but if you are concerned about the side effects or if they persist, contact your doctor.

Very rarely, some more serious side effects have been reported. If you encounter the symptoms of an allergic reaction such as facial swelling or shortness of breath, or if you experience severe pain or swelling in either of your legs, you should stop taking Cerazette and seek medical attention immediately.
