Ideal for people who are travelling to places where malaria is prevalent, our travel pack combines two effective medicines for maximum benefit. The pairing of Paludrine with Avloclor is an anti-malarial combination that provides comprehensive protection for the possibility of contracting malaria.
Malaria is potentially a very serious illness that can occasionally prove fatal if not treated effectively. Mosquitoes can carry the causal bacteria for long periods of time and, in the majority of cases, patients contract malaria as a result of a mosquito bite. If you are travelling to an area where malaria is common such as Asia, sub-Saharan Africa or the Americas, it is vital that you equip yourself with a good malaria treatment.
Taking paludrine and avloclor together as a preventative measure before travelling and whilst overseas ensures that you minimise the possibility of contracting this dangerous illness.
In certain parts of the world, the risk of catching malaria is incredibly high, with the bacteria being transported from person to person by mosquitoes. A single mosquito bite can leave you infected with malaria that may present symptoms including fever, headaches, sweating, seizures, vomiting & diarrhoea.
According to medical evidence, paludrine and avlocor together are highly effective at stopping the development of malaria even if you are bitten by a mosquito that carries the infectious bacteria. The tablet bolsters the body’s natural defences and enables it to effectively fight off the onset of the illness, as well as working to kill malaria parasites that are already in the body.
Anybody planning an overseas trip that may place them at risk of contracting malaria should be taking an anti-malarial medicine before they leave, whilst they are away, and also upon their return.
Malaria is an illness that is caused by parasites that are collectively known as plasmodium. These small parasites are carried in large numbers by mosquitoes and, if one of these mosquitoes should bite you, the harmful parasites are injected into your bloodstream.
Once you have been infected by the parasites, they reproduce extremely quickly, and spread through the body presenting the symptoms of malaria. Whilst your body naturally attempts to defend itself and fight off the parasites, their rate of reproduction makes this a very unlikely fight to win.
Taken together, the combination stops the harmful malaria parasite from reproducing within your body and, as a result, helps your body to fight off illness.
Providing that you take the combination as prescribed before, during and after your time overseas, you can enjoy greater peace of mind about your chances of contracting malaria.
Paludrine tablets are routinely used by adults and children planning to travel to parts of the world where malaria is prevalent. This may include South America, Africa or Asia. Since these tablets are offered in a lower dose than many other anti-malarial medications, they are ideal for use in low-risk locations such as India or for patients who have encountered side effects whilst using other medicines.
Paludrine is a very well tolerated medicine and is suitable for the majority of patients. However, you should inform our doctors if you suffer from severely decreased kidney or liver function. The medicine should not be used by epileptics, by anyone suffering from porphyria, by anyone allergic to the ingredients, or anyone who has encountered allergic reactions whilst using similar medications.
Our Paludrine-Avloclor Travel Pack is supplied as two separate tablets in a calendar pack showing 2 tablets of Paludrine (Proguanil 100mg per tablet) daily and 2 tablets of Avloclor (Chloroquine 250mg per tablet, equivalent of 155mg of chloroquine base per tablet) each week.
For people over the age of 18, two tablets should be taken each day, preferably after food to reduce any potential side effects. In order to keep the levels of medicine in your body constant, the tablet should be taken at the same time every day.
For children, the dosages are as follows:
1 – 4 Years: Half tablet Avloclor on same day each week, half tablet Paludrine at same time each day
5 – 8 Years: One tablet Avloclor weekly, one tablet Paludrine each day.
9 – 14 Years: One and a half tablets Avloclor and one and a half tablets Paludrine.
It is important that you take this course of medication exactly as outlined. First, one week before you plan to enter the high-risk location, you should begin taking the medication. This should continue for the duration of your time overseas and also for four weeks after you return.
The majority of people who take Paludrine do not encounter any side effects at all, but in some rare cases patients have reported headaches, nausea and diarrhoea. Sometimes Avloclor tablets cause blurred eyesight or make it difficult to focus your eyes. If this happens to you, do not drive or use any tools or machines.
These side effects rarely persist, but if you are concerned about symptoms you experience whilst taking paludrine, contact your doctor.
